DAY-04: Edinburgh, Taking a Break
Day – 04: Saturday, August 26, 2017
Starting Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Ending Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
With so much having been done so far, it's time for a break! Thinking if we get much older we might have to change our future plans to "one-day-tour : one-day-rest".
No hurry this morning our plans include basically two events, tour the Edinburgh Castle, have tea and have dinner. Before noon we were back on the streets climbing the road to the castle.
Along the way we passed through a Saturday Farmers' Market not so different than those at home, check out the tomatoes.

After taking the stairway to the Royal Mile we arrived at the castle entrance but couldn't find our royal hosts; we'd come all this way and there were no princes or princesses, let alone a queen to greet us.
No royalty but as you can see there were a few other people there to meet & greet as we coursed through the castle.

Ah the lady in the red hat, I know you're thinking Sheila met a Red Sox fan but no, her hat indicated that she had traveled to Petra, you know, the 2,300 year old ruins in the Jordanian desert.
I'm not saying that the castle is commercialized, but several times now we've seen or heard about the "OUTLANDER" series of books and/or TV shows; guess it has something to do with Scotland.

The three of us, that would be me, the general and his horse, do look a bit stiff in these pictures.
Thought the daisy would be a nice touch interspersed amongst the weapons of ancient war.

So having seen the castle we had a stop in one of the gift shops picking up a few cards and a bottle of some sort of malt liqueur, a blend of malt whiskey with honey and sloe berries.
This stuff is pleasing to the palate, very, did I mention very sweet and nothing like a single malt. This might work on pancakes in lieu of "real" maple syrup!
We returned to the hotel around 2 PM with Sheila making a beeline to the Tea Room for yes, you guessed it, champagne served with that "to die for" cucumber sandwich and sweets, etc. For me, a BLT with a local brew, Lawless Village IPA.
Around 8:30 we headed to the hotel's fancy restaurant The Pompadour. The dinner was good and the staff were most interesting as they represented a diverse range of European countries and world travel experiences.
As it was now getting late, our day came to an end just before midnight.

| For the audio tour Sheila opted for Mandarin today. |
The sign is absolute proof that we were standing on a bit of history, a lot of stuff happened around here 3,000 years ago.
The 1:00 PM cannon, the ultimate timepiece of Edinburgh. Why 1:00 PM you may ask?
